  • {4} Being Jewish at Christmastime [Sammi Sudit]

Every time we get on a plane, the world gets a little smaller.

When we travel, we meet people who look different than we do, who sound different than we do, who live differently than we do.

They might believe something different or eat something different.

All of the sudden, those who do things differently than we do become our friends.

This week we’re getting on a “plane” together and meeting up with my friend Sammi Sudit.

    Sammi’s Jewish!

So this week on Have Hope; Will Travel Sammi shares with us:

    * Where the story of Hanukkah comes from.* How to play the dreidel game.* If she gets presents every day of Hanukkah.* What it’s like to be Jewish in December.* How we Christians can love our Jewish friends well.

Imagine your phone battery is on 10 percent but lasts 8 days—that’s Hanukkah.

I love having friends from different cultural and religious backgrounds because I’ve got so much to learn. I don’t always get it right—I talk about that in the podcast too.

Yet putting in the effort to learn, asking questions to understand, and being willing to see things different is a great way to love your neighbor as yourself (a Jewish teaching, actually).

Here’s the link to Have Hope; Will Travel on iTunes and Spotify.

If you want to learn more about Hanukkah, explore chabad.org or better, ask your Jewish friends to tell you about their traditions. You can even tell them you were listening to a podcast and want to know more.

You can also connect with Sammi on Instagram.

    Happy Holidays, friend!

PS: We are working on having transcripts available for each episode. I can’t promise them but I can promise we’re trying really hard!

  • {2} Lost in the Journey [Katie Axelson]
It’s easy to experience Christmas on autopilot because it’s so familiar. Instead, let’s take a step back and look at the story from a new perspective: where is God when you’re lost? If you’ve ever felt abandoned or misled by God, you’re in good company. This episode is for you.
