We're back with our Oscar tradition this year! As we have in the past, we're bringing together a panel of movie experts to discuss this year's Oscar nominees and make their predictions. Join Rafe along with Thomas Mariani, Emily Slade, and Mel Gore as they discuss and debate the big awards showdown between Oppenheimer, Barbie, and a really strong list of nominees, ultimately making their predictions about who will be taking home an Oscar at this coming weekend's festivities.

Rafe jumps beyond the screens to talk about last week's lack of episode and a temporary new format for the podcast's release schedule. Then he gives his thoughts on this year's batch of Oscar nominations, as well as spoiler-free mini reviews of Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Banshees of Inisherin, and Tár. Let us know what you think of this year's Oscar-nominated films or your responses to his takes on these movies by contacting us through the links below!
Check out Rafe's other podcast, Never Say Die!, where he teams up with Drew Meyer to look at movies and how we can draw inspiration from them for role-playing game adventures.

Rafe is joined by last-minute fill-in Thomas Mariani, who has previously discussed films ranging from Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story to Green Room to The Muppets Take Manhattan. This selection is unlike any of those others! Short Term 12 is a solid, rather harrowing drama - a far cry from the genre selections Thomas has brought before. It also may very well be Rafe's favorite movie that he's discovered through his own podcast, and a film that Rafe found a very deep emotional connection to. Listen as Rafe and Thomas discuss the film, Tubi as a streaming platform, and more!

This week's independent podcast promo is for the Carlotta Beautox podcast
Adam Thomas returns to the show. What does the returning guest, who previously picked heady sci-fi like Dark City and The Jacket bring to the table this time? Why, a western, of course. Rafe and Adam talk about Adam's hot takes on popular movies, how The Proposition doesn't match up to its own advertising campaign, movies Adam won't watch again, and more. We guarantee this episode offers some civility in an otherwise uncivilized world.

Getting back into our regular routine means the return of the Friday Inquiry, where we ask a question related to the movie of the week on our social media. This week the question was inspired by Rafe's desire not to watch Se7en again after he originally saw it - we asked: what's a movie you won't watch, not because it's bad, but because it's simply disturbing? We got a slew of answers to talk about, as well as setting up the main episode for this week.

This week's movie is the first film picked for the podcast that Rafe swore he would never watch again. But the rules of the podcast are very simple: the guest picks the movie and Rafe has to watch it. Join Rafe with returning guest Joe McDonnell, who picked the dark, gritty, David Fincher-directed Se7en as his next film for discussion. Why didn't Rafe want to watch it? What does this have to do with Joe's previous picks (Batman Returns and Necessary Roughness)? Have a listen and find out!

Yes, it's been quite a while since we've done one of these, but we're back. Or at least we're attempting to be. In this Beyond the Screens, Rafe talks about his hope for the return of the show, trying to find balance, and previews this week's new episode: Se7en, a pick that was problematic for reasons he'll get into in the main episode.

We're continuing a tradition we started last year on Have Not Seen This, and bringing together a panel of movie experts to discuss this year's Oscar nominees and make their predictions. Join Rafe along with Thomas Mariani, Emily Slade, and Mel Gore as they discuss and debate Steven Spielberg's West Side Story remake, Don't Look Up, fawn over movies that aren't even nominated in categories, and and make their predictions about who will be taking home an Oscar at this coming weekend's festivities.

This week's movie selection was a bit of a concern for Rafe, who has voiced his issues with comedies in the past. Thankfully, guest Joe Gallant quickly turned him around on this silly, plot-light - and yet perfectly enjoyable - '70s comedy, Smokey and the Bandit. Rafe and Joe talk about the movie, Burt Reynolds as a '70s icon, the decade's infatuation with CB Radios, and more! Let's haul ass!

Happy New Year! We're back to kick off the new year with a full episode, discussing The Last Unicorn with Sara Sorrentino. Like many others, we were both traumatized by this movie as a child, but revisiting it as an adult yields a lot of interesting discussion points, such as the film's views on men (not humanity, but men), immortality, and more!
