The world would come to know her as Miriam Makeba... and they would LOVE her talent and positive spirit. The amazing woman that we're talking about this week contributed to cinema not as a director, writer, or actor... but as a concept artist for animation. Mary Blair became an influential artist for the Disney movies Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella and Peter Pan (among others). Her unique art is beautiful and bright. Encouraged by her mother to go into theater acting to help support her family when she was a little girl, Mary found that she loved to be on stage & enjoyed performing. Working her way through traveling stage troops and Broadway, Mary decided to try her talent at film. The camera LOVED her... and so did her audiences. Her contributions to the film industry are sometimes overlooked (she was just an "actress" after all), but when we learn her story we can see that she had a passion and understanding that far exceeded what was captured on film.
