I quit drinking twice. Both times I was pregnant. Nine months each, no problem. And I used that as proof I didn't have a problem.

But the second those babies were born I went right back. Because I wasn't choosing sobriety. I was just pausing.

In this episode I talk about the difference between quitting because you have to and choosing to because you want to. The countdown mentality of pregnancy sobriety. Buying test strips for my breast milk because I couldn't trust myself. And the moment I sometimes think about what it would feel like to be pregnant one more time without a countdown in mind. Not because I want another baby. But because I wonder what that version of me would look like now.

June 16, 2024 I chose it for me. Not for a baby. Not because a doctor said so. Because I decided I deserved the same version of me that my babies got for nine months.
