Hawkeyes & Tallboys

In a whirlwind of action last weekend, it's championship week, and it's a matchup between our beloved #13 Iowa Hawkeyes and the #2 Michigan Wolverines. Iowa's path to the Big Ten title included a 4th quarter comeback win featuring it's previously discarded starting QB Spencer Petras, along with a Minnesota upset win versus Wisconsin. Michigan finds it's way into the game by way of a rout at home versus their arch-rivals at Ohio State, 42-27. This is a game of two different stories on the line! The first being Michigan, with a win in this game could propel them into the College Football playoff - giving them a shot at the National Championship for the first time since 1997. On the other side you have the Iowa Hawkeyes who look to play spoiler by redeeming themselves on a national stage, and prove to the nation that they are worthy of a top tier bowl game. This week to help us breakdown the game for our listeners,  we welcome our special guest Kyler Kregel, a former college football center, and Michigan aficionado. It's the annual Big Ten West rivalry game that only takes place on Black Friday, -it's The Heroes Game, battling for the Heroes Trophy-, it's Iowa versus Nebraska. This week the Hawks look to keep their win streak alive on the road against the Cornhuskers of Nebraska. It should be a fun one, as this is a game the Hawks win to stay alive in the hunt for a Big Ten West title, and the Cornhuskers look to play the spoiler. This week to help us breakdown the game for you,  we welcome our two special guests, both originally from Nebraska: Zach Santi (@Zsjre5), and Thomas "Carolina Husker" Smith (@HuskerTom1997).  Both lifelong Cornhusker fans, Zach is a Strength & Conditioning coach from Nebraska, and Tom is a Cornhusker Fanatic living in South Carolina. We had a lot of fun breaking down this week's matchup with them both!

The Hawkeyes are once again in the win column, taking down Minnesota last week at home and keeping the Floyd of Rosedale trophy in Iowa City. It's Week 11, and after a switch at Quarterback, the Hawkeyes are once again in the win column just in time to face their northern rival, the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The annual battle for the Floyd of Rosedale trophy continues this Saturday in Iowa City, and this matchup will determine which team takes the lead all-time with the bronze pig as Iowa & Minnesota are both 42-42-2 all time. Here to help breakdown the matchup for you,  Beau, Dylan and Rob welcome two special guests from Minnesota: Danny Freed (@danny_freed) and Corey Carbert (@goldengopher). Danny played D3 college football as a TE at Wheaton College and has been a Minnesota Golden Gopher season ticket holder for 26 years. Corey is also a lifelong Gopher fan and season ticket holder, and once had a Twitter handle so synonymous with the University of Minnesota (@GopherFootball_) that they forced him to change his handle! Both of our guests provided us a phenomenal inside look at the team, and we had a lot of fun breaking down this week's matchup!

We enter Week 10 with a second loss in a row, and to Hawkeye fans it might feel like the sky is falling. After a disappointing loss at Camp Randall Stadium last Saturday the Hawks fell to #22 in the AP poll, and head into another Big 10 West rival road game, this time versus Northwestern in Evanston, IL. In this episode, the guys take us through discussions on what needs to be handled differently in order to get this team back on track. They looked at the last two straight losses, and analyzed areas of improvement for the Hawkeyes, breaking down everything you need to know heading into this Saturday's matchup. This Saturday is Homecoming for the Hawkeyes as they take on their Big Ten West rivals the Purdue Boilermakers! In this episode, the guys welcome Special Guest and former Purdue Boilermaker Jed Wilkinson (@PurdueWilkie) to discuss this week's matchup. Jed is an avid Boilermaker fan, is a board moderator for Gold & Black Illustrated, and he was the first live DJ for a Division I sporting event, DJing for the Boilermakers Homegames in 2014. Jed was able to help us look at the strengths and weaknesses of this year's Purdue team, and the players to look out for on the opposite side of the ball as the Hawkeyes look to continue their undefeated season.

It's the biggest game on the College Football schedule this week, it's the first top-5 matchup in the Big Ten that doesn't include Ohio State or Michigan since 1962, AND it's the first top-5 matchup in Kinnick Stadium since 1985 - it's #3 Iowa vs #4 Penn State! This week the guys welcome Special Guest Alex Schaffer (@BlueWhiteSports) to discuss this monster of a matchup between two teams that both have their eyes set on a Big Ten Championship and a College Football Playoff Berth. Alex is a lifelong Penn State fan, and runs an excellent Penn State fan account on Twitter. He was able to help us break down the keys for this weekends matchup, the players to look out for, and the implications that this game will have on the rest of the season. This one ended up running a bit longer than normal, but we ended up covering a lot!  

This week is the Battle of the Unbeatens as two of the Big Ten's 5 unbeaten teams - #5 Iowa & Maryland, face off this Friday! To help breakdown all the things you need to know, Beau, Dylan, and Rob welcome the host of Terp Talk, special guest Mason Viener! Mason hails from outside the DC area, and has been covering Maryland sports, specifically football, since he was a kid at the age of 6. Mason walked us through the Maryland playmakers on both sides of the ball, he was able to provide impressive insight into what makes the team successful, and what to look out for Friday night. From there, the guys broke down the keys to the game for both squads, the betting lines, and gave their predictions on the game!

This week the guys welcome a special guest all the way from Fort Collins, CO, host of Rams Nation Radio, and also runs RamNation.com, Mike Rowe! Mike was an excellent guest helping the guys navigate the Colorado roster and pick apart the guys to look out for on the Colorado State side of the ball, including potential first round draft pick TE Trey McBride. From there, the guys broke down the matchup, the betting lines, talked about the keys to victory for both squads, and gave their predictions on the game!
