I've known Hayes for a while now, but mainly on the basketball court. What I didn't know however, was his story and what he was doing with Hoop.Camp. 

Today we get to hear about it. From his playing days and the experiences he had competing at a high level. Some of the insights he would provide to the aspiring athletes out there who are looking to compete in college. 

We will dive DEEP into Hoop Camp and learn about what Hayes and his father along with their amazing team are doing for those who have special needs. Where are these camps located? How can we get involved? What does it look like? What are some of the lessons they've learned from being involved with Hoop Camp from the beginning? 

Hoop.Camp is a non-profit organization that hosts sports camps and clinics For all adults and children with additional and special needs.

Here are a few facts (taken from the website) about Hoop Camp: 

• Since 1994 we have been serving those in our communities of all ages with special needs, mental and cognitive impairment
• Over 30,000 volunteer hours have been logged since Hoop.Camp began.
• No coaches, directors or any staff are compensated at Hoop.Camp — ALL are volunteers.
• Hoop.Camp is a 501 (c)3 non-profit corporation registered with the IRS. All donations are deductible.
• Nineteen Boy Scouts have used Hoop.Camp as their Eagle service project and earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
• Our oldest athlete was 73 years old.
• One special needs athlete could dunk a basketball.
• Hoop.Camp is a “unified” event. Athletes without special needs participate with our special needs campers.
• Many of our athletes have competed in Special Olympic sporting events internationally.
• Many have won gold medals in Special Olympic participation.
• Our younger and smaller athletes play on 8′ baskets.
• Our coach to athlete ratio is 1:4.

What an amazing opportunity for us to learn about such an impactful organization that is giving back to the sports world in a MASSIVE way!
