Last week the House passed HB 8070 largely on a partisan supported vote. The headline that followed was rife with misinformation regarding an automatic enlistment of military aged men in America. The reality of the bill was far different, it would require an automation of selective service registration of all males aged 18-25. This has been a requirement for compulsory conscription since it was reinstituted in 1980. Today I break down the bill and the history of the draft.
