"River of Errors" is a novella written by the contemporary Chinese writer Yu Hua. It was first published in the first issue of Zhongshan in 1988.

"A Mistake by the River" is one of Yu Hua's pioneering experimental works. It is a fictional detective story. On the mysterious and tempting river, Grandma Mo Si was killed. Criminal police captain Ma Zhe was responsible for investigating the case. Evidence showed that the "madman" in the town was the murderer, but the law was helpless against the madman. Then, the madman killed people one after another. Ma Zhe, who could no longer bear it, shot the madman to death with his own hands. The madman died, but Ma Zhe became a madman in the eyes of the people. The main purpose of the novel is not to parody or to reveal violence, but to show the truth of death in the world and to explore the philosophy of survival in the face of an absurd world.
