About our Guest Jean-Phillipe:

Jean-Philippe Challandes is a political historian by training. His doctoral and postdoctoral research, at the Sorbonne and with the Swiss National Science Foundation, examined nationalism and how modern states organise not only territory but perception — a question first opened by his father's childhood memories of the war, and the puzzle of how whole populations came to conform. He then spent fifteen years teaching leadership in universities, business schools and executive education, until, in 2022, he no longer believed the frameworks he was teaching. Taking them apart took four years.

His work now concerns the difference between authority and power, and what happens when the two are welded together — in institutions, in nervous systems, in intimate relationships, and in the very movements set up to oppose domination. His booklet Still Running: Six Snapshots of Empire as a Perceptual Operating System (not yet published) is short, diagnostic, and proposes no solution. Most of his work happens in rooms, with teams, communities, founders and couples. What interests him most is how thoroughly we are the pattern we would like to dissolve — good intentions included.

Mark is a very well respected Dagara Diviner and leader in his community. He has spearheaded and developed a thriving Dagara medicine community in the West, and have initiated almost 150 practitioners here in the US and many also in parts of Europe. He is fluent in French, Spanish and fairly literate in Dioula -  a ‘market language’ covering much of French West Africa. He has worked extensively with Malidoma Some and Martine Some, beginning in the late 90’s and has traveled to Burkina Faso on numerous occasions for many years. During these years he was initiated on three separate occasions into unique Dagara divination practices. His book “Awakening Animism in the West’ was recently picked up by Inner Traditions for publishing.

Dean Liprini is a Sacred Sites researcher and geomancer (earth diviner) who grew up on the Lower Slopes of Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa.

He has more than 27 years full time experience in this field and has authored a book entitled “Pathways of the Sun – Unveiling the Mysteries of Table Mountain and Beyond”, published 2006.
