Dr. Taylor Nichols comes back to fill us in on first hand experience of dealing with a global pandemic and the ever-changing landscape of policy that has occurred due to it. The main take away? Science is always changing and we need to remember that we can, and should, update our policies in line with the most tried and true information we have available. We should also continue to question in a logical and testable way to find the answer. Grahame Grieve is leading the 3rd generation of healthcare interoperability standards with his team on the FHIR project. This set of standards looks to modernize and improve the transmission of healthcare data to make it easier for people to shift records and obtain them through various platforms. Grahame and I discuss why the standard was necessary, what they hope to achieve, and why it had to be Open Source.
While the base of this standard is technical, it is something that more people should have an understanding of, especially as data and healthcare information become more available and centers of discussion.
