Scientists ran a PRISMA systematic review and evidence map of whole-body electromyostimulation (WB-EMS) in sportspeople and athletes.
They searched five databases to March 2025, screened 4,914 records, and kept 34 projects / 39 studies.
Dual reviewers extracted 79 outcome categories and 300+ measures—mostly strength, jumping, sprinting, and power, with far fewer on regeneration or injury prevention.
The map does not prove EMS wins every sport, but it shows where trials actually look for help: time-efficient, joint-friendly training that may support performance and recovery.
PRISMA methods, author contact for missing data, and PEDro ratings make the overview credible. Read the full post for protocols, who was studied, and the research gaps that matter next.
