In this podcast we look at an overview of consent and capacity. We begin by looking at the three elements of consent - it must be informed, voluntary and the patient must have capacity to make the decision. Following this, we consider each in more detail looking at Montgomery v Lanarkshire (material risks) and look at the Mental Capacity Act 2005 in some detail in regards to each of the 5 principles, the two stage mental capacity test and best interests decisions. In today's episode, I give an introduction to dental ethics. We look at the theory that underpins dental ethics and then turn our attention to how this relates to dentistry as a profession. In this episode, I spoke to Dr. Malhotra - an anaesthetics trainee doctor and host of the Doc Malhotra podcast (https://open.spotify.com/show/4qn1jvAWHV2AHrH2Aug18w?si=c_iGlhSCSJ6aCDJcHMHsCA) - about resilience, burnout and his reflections on the COVID-19 Pandemic. In this podcast, he gives an amazing insight into what it has been like as a front line doctor during the pandemic and shares his thoughts on coping with burnout and building resilience. This is a must listen podcast and many thanks to Dr. Malhotra for his time and for giving such an honest account of his reflections and experiences.
