GPs must give all patients with abnormal LFTs a positive diagnosis
Use ALT levels of 19 for women and 30 for men and investigate all who are higher
Triage at the GP level consists of calculators stratifying cirrhosis risk (links attached) where negative or very low numbers are of greatest value
Those with moderate to higher risks should have degree of fibrosis assessed with a fibroscan
A fibroscan result > 8.5 should alert us to refer to a hepatologist or liver clinic, equates to moderate fibrosis
Uncomplicated MAFLD compels us to treat all CVD risk factors aggressively
