Ellen has authored 6 books, including Eat Vegan on $4 a Day, which is the focus of our discussion. Ellen is an accomplished runner having received 199 awards for the 5K races she’s competed in. Pastor Keenan West was born in Wilmington, Delaware but raised in Washington, D.C. He is currently the pastor of the South Nashville Seventh-day Adventist Church in Antioch, Tn. He has been married for almost 17 years to the lovely Jeneen West and they have three beautiful children.  Pastor West graduated from Southern Adventist University with a Bachelors in Theology and a minor in Biblical Languages. He also received his Masters in Pastoral Studies from Oakwood University. Pastor West has a passion for ministry and loves seeing people come into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. In this episode Pastor West explains why healthy living should be preached from the pulpit and encouraged as a lifestyle to those in the church. He talks about his transition to a plant based diet and how he integrates healthy living into in messages. He talks about the connection between stewardship of health and living out God's purpose. In this episode Sersie and Gigi sit down with Reverend Aaron Robinson to talk about the intersection of health and the role of the church.

Rev. Aaron Robinson, a son of Mount Welcome Missionary Baptist Church, grew up in Metro Atlanta and is a product of Atlanta Public Schools.  He joined Mount Welcome in his preteen years and was baptized by the late Rev. Charles W. Grant.  

Later in life, Aaron accepted his call into the ministry and enrolled in Candler School of Theology of Emory University, where he earned his Master of Divinity with a focus on Black Church Studies.  Shortly after receiving his Masters of Divinity, Aaron was Ordained into the Ministry of PAOCC. Aaron has faithfully served in numerous positions at different churches.  In December of 2016, Aaron was called to serve as Interim Senior Pastor at Mount Welcome, his childhood spiritual home.  In September 2017, Aaron was elected to serve Mount Welcome as the 10th Senior Pastor in the church's history.  Aaron actively volunteers with non-profits such as Open Hand Atlanta, Male Action Coalition and Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance.

He lives by Luke 4:18-19, "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

Food addiction is a real thing, but it’s not recognized in many healthcare, workplace, and school settings. It could be the number one reason why most people struggle to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.  In my conversation with Dr. Vera Tarman, food addiction expert and author of Food Junkies, we discuss the difference between food addiction and eating disorders, what happens neurochemically in the brain and why some people are more prone to addiction, and ways to recover to find food serenity.  About Dr. Vera Tarman:  Dr Vera Tarman has been working in the field of addiction medicine since 1994.
