If you've spent the last few years feeling like your metabolism turned on you in menopause, this episode is for you. It's Part 3 of our 3-part series on midlife metabolism — the wrap-up where we finally answer the question: is this a winnable game, or not?
In this episode, I talk about why the body you had at 25 isn't coming back (and why that's not a discipline problem — it's just biology), why it might be time to give yourself permission to stop chasing the scale, and why longevity — not just weight loss — might be the more meaningful goal for your midlife and postmenopause years.
You'll learn:
This wraps our 3-part series on menopause metabolism. If you missed the first two, catch them on the blog: Part 1 on why your calorie deficit isn't working, and Part 2 on the five real reasons your metabolism shifts.
Ready to put this into practice without counting a single calorie? Grab my free Midlife Metabolic Reset guide — link in the show notes. Real food, real support, no scale required.
This is Part 2 of a 3-part series on midlife metabolism. Last episode we covered a study showing standard calorie formulas overestimate perimenopausal resting energy expenditure by an average of 215 calories a day, and that muscle loss only explains 1% to 2% of that gap.
So this week: if it's not muscle, what is it?In this episode:

This is Part 1 of a 3-part series on midlife metabolism.
You've been in a calorie deficit, tracking everything, following the formula to the letter, and the scale still isn't moving. This week I'm digging into a new study that measured perimenopausal women's actual resting calorie burn in a lab and compared it to what the standard calculator formulas predict.
Spoiler: most of those formulas overestimate by an average of 215 calories a day, and it's not because of muscle loss like we've all assumed. Then I go down a bit of a rabbit hole into BMI, because it turns out that formula has the same problem: it was built almost 200 years ago from data that never included women like us, and I think you'll never look at it the same way again. In this episode:

Protein advice is everywhere right now, but almost nobody talks about where it should come from. Kristine breaks down the "protein trap," why chasing protein alone can crowd out something your body needs just as much, and why plant protein may be the smarter source for women over 40.

If you’ve been eating well, moving your body, and still feeling like nothing’s working — this episode is for you.
Kristine breaks down why weight loss genuinely feels harder after 40: what’s actually changing in your body (hormones, muscle loss, cortisol, sleep disruption, and more), why the strategies that used to work often backfire in midlife, and what the research says actually helps now.
Spoiler: it’s not about trying harder. It’s about a smarter approach — and a lot more kindness toward yourself.
