Welcome back everyone! In case you didn’t hear with our first guest, just a quick note - I mentioned the perfectly imperfect beginnings of this podcast (and all great projects), so please do bear with us through these first few episodes which were, thanks to COVID19, recorded on Zoom before I was able to go anywhere to buy a microphone! The audio is a little scratchy, but will get better and better – spoiler alert, I get a microphone in a few episodes’ time!
Back to our guest, Turia Pitt... In 2011, at the age of 24, Turia’s life was turned upside down. While competing in a 100km ultra marathon in the Australian outback, she encountered an out of control grass fire. Trapped by the blaze, she suffered burns to 65% of her body. She was choppered out of the remote desert barely alive and wasn’t expected to survive. She lost seven of her fingers, spent over six months in hospital, underwent over 200 operations and spent two years in recovery.
In 2016, she achieved a goal she’d been working towards since the early days of her recovery; competing in her first Ironman competition in May, followed by the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.
Kona was a gruelling experience that taught her over and over again that when we get our mindset right, we truly can achieve anything. That’s not the only goal she’s smashed since being told she’d never walk, run or be independent again. Over the years, she’s written multiple books, been honoured with multiple awards, mentored thousands of people to achieve their greatest goals and in general is just smashing life out of the park.
I’ve been fortunate enough to know Turia for many years and in 2016 we were together along with Miranda Tapsell part of an iconic Disney Princess Campaign. We’ve spoken on stage together many times and every day she continues to inspire me. In this episode of Hear me RAW we dig deep into what it truly takes to have an invincible mindset.
This interview is packed with actionable strategies and tips to kickstart you into living a life you’ve always dreamed of – today.

Welcome to our first episode of Hear Me Raw with an actual guest, I’m so delighted to have the amazing Lewis Howes join to kick off the show. Quick preliminary note - I mentioned the perfectly imperfect beginnings of this podcast (and all great projects), so please do bear with us through these first few episodes which were, thanks to COVID19, recorded on Zoom before I was able to go anywhere to buy a microphone! So, the audio is a little scratchy, but the content is still banging! In a few episodes’ time, I upgrade to a mic so the audio, like my own journey as podcaster, will only get better and better…
ANYWAY, back to our guest, Lewis Howes is a New York Times Bestselling author, lifestyle entrepreneur, high performance business coach and keynote speaker, a former professional football player and now host of The School of Greatness podcast, which has over 250 million downloads and over 900 episodes since it launched in 2013. Lewis and I first connected that same year when he invited me onto his podcast. We’ve regularly connected since and it has been incredible to witness his meteoric rise. Lewis was recognised by The White House and President Obama as one of the top 100 entrepreneurs in the US under 30.
But before Lewis became a media sensation for empowering people and sharing 'Greatness' across the globe, he had his share of obstacles to overcome. From having a learning disability, which led to being alone and bullied in school, to being sexually abused as a child, to being injured and broke on his sister’s couch, Lewis’s story is the perfect example of how anybody can overcome the obstacles in their life and achieve greatness. And we did deep into where he was and where he is now and how he bridged the gap in between. This episode of Hear me RAW has so many incredible takeaways for anyone wanting to get out there and do something great.
We talk about:
· Breaking free of your story and patterns
· We explore different ways of learning
· We explore success, winning, self worth and greatness
· What happens when your identity crumbles
· Hacks to just getting started
· The power of relationships
