Twice on Sunday is Heard Tell's review of the week that was by reviewing some of the good talks we had with our guests. This week, Sarah Rumpf on the State of Florida vs Disney, RJ Lehman on the business side of the Elon Musk deal to by Twitter, Agustin Forzani talks Argentina and how internal politics are affecting their worldwide standing, David McGarry on yet another example of gov't overstepping this time with ICE/DHS, and Gabriel Salazar Sing talks some troubling developments in Mexico that has AMLO looking more and more like a dictator and less like the reformer he ran as.
On this Heard Tell Good Talks, our guest Sarah Rumpf of Mediaite joins us to get past the rhetoric and narratives of the State of Florida's legislation changing the Reedy Creek Improvement District, otherwise known as the land where Disney World sits. Sarah walks us through the black-and-white of the passed law, the previous agreements and regulations that also have legal bearing, and how if it stands the whole mess is headed to court. We also talk about the political implications of Gov Ron DeSantis choosing this particular moment and issue to pick a fight with the House of Mouse, accusations that there is no plan, the working theory that the governor did this knowing it would be stopped in court, and how the raised national profile plays back in Florida in what is an election year for the governor. Also, Sarah has talked to and research extensively the local level government, services, and finances that will be affected should the law stand as written, and she explains how undoing 50+ years of governing, infrastructure, bonds, taxes, and services need careful planning and due diligence to change – something even the primary sponsor of the bill admits didn’t happen here.
Your Heard Tell for Friday, April 29th, 2022, is turning down the noise and getting to the information we need on a growing conspiracy theory that needs to be nipped in the bud following the death of a figure central to investigations into Deutsche Bank was found dead. Two prominent talking heads returned to Twitter this week from "bans" and both credited Elon Musk's buying of the social media platform as the reason...only problem being that deal isn't done yet, and the truth is they don't want to admit to acquiescing to Twitter's moderation of their content since that would be bad for their brands, we'll get to the real story there. On this Heard Tell Good Talks, our guest RJ Lehman of the International Center for Law and Economics joins to talk about the business side of the Elon Musk/Twitter deal, what lead us to this, and what still needs to happen before the deal is official and closed. We also talk about the specifics and process that these types of business deals involve, and how beneath all the caterwauling in news media and social media about Musk and media companies, the underlying debate over corporations, people, free speech, and regulation is the same debate we've been having already.

We take the example of Poland and their energy czar who has been planning for this very scenario for 20 years, and what lessons the rest of the world could learn about planning ahead, energy independence, and being prepared before the crisis comes. Congressman Madison Cawthorn is not only back in the headlines but starting to drown from the flood of bad press, we'll turn down the noise and explain how this is not just part of a plan by his own party to be rid of the unfit member from North Carolina, but tells us much about the current state of the GOP and how they will be handling other crisis and problematic members of their caucus. Agustin explains the current politics of Argentina, the famous history of Peronism that lingers today even though in a different form, and universal lessons in government policy when it comes to subsidies, trade, and accountability.
Your Heard Tell for Wednesday, April 27th, 2022, is turning down the noise and getting to the information we need on new polling that shows plenty of voters are open to supporting a "moderate, independent presidential candidate" but we contrast that with how folks actually voted in 2020, and are likely to vote again in 2024. The curious case of folks at the height of a COVID-19 outbreak also increasing their complaints to the Yankee Candle Company that their products "didn't have a smell", we'll talk about it as part of our continuing coverage of Long COVID. Guest Agustin Forzani of Young Voices joins us to talk about the politics and current situation in Argentina, and how this resource rich country could be stepping up to help the global food crisis created by the war in Ukraine...if the Argentine government would get out of the way and change their restrictive agricultural policies. Agustin explains the current politics of Argentina, the famous history of Peronism that lingers today even though in a different form, and universal lessons in government policy when it comes to subsidies, trade, and accountability. Also, President Biden has issues his first batch of pardons and clemencies, but two years into his presidency this move brings criticisms of what took so long, why so few, and whether or not the president will live up to his campaign promises of using his power to give non-violent offenders a clean slate and fresh start. We round out the show by talking about the greatest show on dirt, if you will, and a baseball team that is emphasizing the fun in a time where we could all use it. All that and more on this Wednesday edition of Heard Tell.

Your Heard Tell for Tuesday, April 26th, 2022, is turning down the noise and getting to the information we need on Elon Musk and Twitter agree to terms for the Tesla billionaire to buy the social media platform, but is the caterwauling on the left of the end of free speech, democracy, and the the human race justified, or is the Musk online fans avatar of the moment going to save free speech, Twitter, and solve all the worlds problems...we'll cut through the noise of that. We talk national narratives in the news media, and use some new polling data in West Virginia about Senator Joe Manchin to examine if the last two years of headlines matches what his constituents think.
