Today, we'll talk about the history of the holiday that was established in 1919 and also how prior to the internet, generations of soldiers and families waited on mail as the only means of communication. Author Jack London explores the history of letter writing and the importance of honoring veteran memories through letters in his new book, "French Letters: Engaged in War." Also in the hour, we'll talk with local, award-winning author Joanne Steen who has launched a national campaign to draw attention to the unmet needs of a sometimes overlooked group who bear the ultimate burden and sacrifice for our country--surviving parents who have lost a military son or daughter in the line of duty.
