What is the message that defines Christianity?

In 1 Corinthians 15:1–11, Paul reminds the church of the gospel the message we received, the message that saves us, and the message we continue to stand on.

Christ died for our sins.

He was buried.

He rose again on the third day.

The resurrection of Jesus is not just part of the Christian story.

It is the foundation of our faith.

Paul points to eyewitnesses, transformed lives, and his own testimony as evidence of the grace of God at work.

The gospel is not something we move past.

It is the foundation we never move off of.

Is worship guided by culture or by Scripture?

In 1 Corinthians 14:34–40, Paul closes this section by reminding the church that God cares about how His people gather. Worship is not meant to be chaotic, but shaped by order, humility, and submission to God’s Word.

These verses also address one of the more debated passages in the chapter regarding the role of women in the gathered church. Rather than avoiding difficult texts, we will look carefully at the context and what Paul was actually instructing the Corinthian church.

Is chaos spiritual?

In 1 Corinthians 14, Paul reminds the church that the Holy Spirit produces peace, clarity, and order, not confusion. Spiritual maturity is not measured by volume, emotion, or platform, but by love, self-control, and submission to God’s Word.

When the church gathers, our worship should build up believers and clearly point unbelievers to Christ. We are called to earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but to exercise them in a way that reflects the character of God, a God of peace.

In 1 Corinthians 12:28–31, Paul clarifies and organizes how spiritual gifts function within the church. God appoints different roles for the good of the whole body, calling believers to maturity and to pursue the gifts that most edify others.
