  • Why History Is Important

A journey bridging Mormonism and Christianity, exploring LDS history and beliefs for a more authentic faith centered on Jesus.

In the inaugural episode of 2007, Shawn McCraney introduces "Heart of the Matter," a show dedicated to exploring the intersection of Mormonism and Christianity. McCraney, a former devout member of the LDS Church, shares his personal journey of spiritual rebirth and his mission to illuminate the differences between religious practice and a genuine relationship with Jesus. Having been born into the covenant, served a mission, and remained active in the LDS Church until 2001, McCraney's transformation began in 1997 when he experienced a profound spiritual awakening. This led him to write "Born-Again Mormon: Moving Toward Christian Authenticity" and eventually to establish this show.

The program aims to introduce Latter-day Saints to the concept of spiritual rebirth and to compare Biblical Christianity with contemporary Mormonism. McCraney emphasizes the importance of understanding the history of the LDS Church, arguing that facing historical facts is crucial for mature faith. He plans to spend the year delving into "unheard Mormonism," encouraging viewers to critically examine the past to better understand present-day practices and doctrines.

McCraney's approach is rooted in a desire to foster a rational and realistic Christianity, hoping to see Mormonism eventually align with Biblically supported teachings. By exploring the history and blueprints of the LDS Church, he aims to help believers mature in their faith and place their trust solely in Jesus. The show invites viewers to engage with these discussions, promising a year of insightful exploration into the history and beliefs of Mormonism.

  • The End of the Year Show

A transformative year of faith and exploration, embracing new birth and finding hope and renewal through Jesus Christ, as the journey into 2007 continues.

As we wrap up 2006, broadcasting live from Salt Lake City, Utah, the heart of Mormonism, I’m Shawn McCraney, your grateful host of "Heart of the Matter." This year has been a journey of exploration and discussion, delving into topics like grace, the Bible, and the nature of God. We've questioned, debated, and sought truth, always returning to the central question: "What does Jesus mean to you now?"

Reflecting on the past year, I recall our first show where we discussed the imperative Jesus gave to Nicodemus: "You must be born again." Forty-three weeks have passed, and I ask you again, have you experienced this new birth? It's not about striving or maintaining a condition; it's an event granted by God, transforming your heart and spirit.

Throughout the year, we've met many who have embraced this transformation, from all walks of life. Whether you're dressed in Prada or rags, the new birth is undeniable, and "Christmas" becomes a daily celebration. It's not about your righteousness but His.

We've also addressed the challenges faced by those who feel broken by religious constructs, particularly within the LDS Church. Our ministry aims to reach out to those who feel they don't measure up, offering a message of hope and renewal through Jesus Christ.

As we move into 2007, I encourage you to let go of whatever holds you back. Trust God fully, and He will guide you. Whether you're seeking truth, change, or certainty, know that Jesus is the friend who will never let you down. As we open the phone lines tonight, let's continue this journey together, exploring faith and seeking understanding. Here's to a new year of discovery and growth in our relationship with God.
