Timothy was a true friend— the kind of guy you’d want around (even if or especially when) you hurt. He was the real deal. He wasn’t perfect by any means—he struggled in some areas. Fearfulness
was an issue for him—he had to be told to be strong. He was also told to flee the evil desires of youth—implying quite possibly that he was still “all boy” in some areas. We can read in Scripture times when he experienced de- feat and failure. For sure, he had his weak spots. He was- n’t perfect. In other words, Timothy was exactly the kind of person that God chooses to use.
The Apostle Paul saw something in Timothy and he chose to invest in him. One of the ways he helped him was to write letters to him. As fellow strugglers who want to be used by God, studying the book of First Timothy will help us. Our time in this great book will help us become the people God wants us to be. God is calling us to be a Kingdom-anticipating church filled with Christians who are committed to making disciples, maturing believers, and multiplying ministries. Lets do it!
