  • Joy After Grief, A Meditation on 1 Peter 1:8 by Paula Kowalkowski

Paula reflects on the paradox of Easter joy amidst sorrow and grief the disciples felt and that we feel in our own lives as we suffer our own grief and loss.

    1 Peter 1:8

Though you have not seen Him, you love Him.
And even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him
and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious.

  • Restored in Love, A Meditation on John 21:15-17 by Nancy Hulsebosch

It's early in the morning, you are Peter, tired from fishing all night but elated when you realize the risen Lord is waiting for you with a warm fire on the beach...until you get there and He starts grilling you about how much you love Him.

    John 21:15-17
Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”
He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.”

He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?”
He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
Jesus said to him, “Tend my sheep.”

He said to him a third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?”
Peter said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.”
Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.”

    John 20:26-28
Now a week later his disciples were again inside
    and Thomas was with them.
Jesus came, although the doors were locked,
and stood in their midst and said,
    “Peace be with you.”
    Then he said to Thomas,
“Put your finger here and see my hands,
and bring your hand and put it into my side,
and do not be unbelieving, but believe.”
Thomas answered and said to him,
    “My Lord and my God!”

    About Season of Joy 2026
Jesus' words to the apostles on Easter Sunday were: “Peace be with you!” Jesus wants each of us to experience that same peace—a peace the world cannot give.

But our world is not at peace. Wars rage. At home we are divided. We need healing—emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

It is into this very world, just as it is, that Jesus comes to offer us His healing peace—and with that peace, the gift of joy. Pope Leo asks us to pray very intentionally for this peace.

Our series begins today on Divine Mercy Sunday and concludes on Pentecost, May 24. Each Sunday thru Friday, one of our 16 prayer guides—8 men & 8 women—lead us in prayers for healing and peace using the gift of our imaginations.

    John 20:19-23
On the evening of that first day of the week,
when the doors were locked, where the disciples were,
    for fear of the Jews,
Jesus came and stood in their midst
and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side.
The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you.
As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”
And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,
    “Receive the Holy Spirit.
Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them,
and whose sins you retain are retained.”
