After detailing the position and the purpose of the use of tongues Paul describes his limited acceptance of the use of tongues.

The use of tongues in today’s church is completely out of character with the purpose Paul describes in this passage. Starting in verse 21 Paul simply says to look at what the Bible says. This is true for every question we can ask but especially about faulty teaching.

While speaking in tongues is a big part of some churches, the truth is, Paul sees tongues as secondary to expository preaching because what is important is that the church be edified not that the speaker is glorified.
