When adversity hits, our first response matters. We can try to fix everything ourselves, react out of frustration, or shut out the people who want to help us. But Scripture shows us a better way.

In Week 8 of our King of Hearts series, Pastor Mike walks through David’s response to one of the most difficult seasons of his life in 2 Samuel 15–19.

Through David’s story, we discover three important choices we can make in the middle of adversity:

1. Pray first. Make prayer your first response, not your last resort.
2. Refuse to react. Don’t allow difficult circumstances to determine how you treat others.
3. Listen to wise counsel. Have the humility to receive help and guidance from people you trust.
