Here's the second lecture on 'Missionary Disciples' from Fr Philip Suelzer CSJ. Here's how he described his lecture series in 2020:
"To be a disciple of Christ is to be sent on mission. In these lectures we will look at what it means to follow Christ wholeheartedly. We will look at the obstacles that may hold us back and see if we can get these out of the way (with the grace of God!). We will also dive in to our call to be missionaries. What is our mission? Each one of us has a personal calling to bring the gospel to others. We will look at how we can be intentional about evangelizing and creating a culture of mission."

The lecture this week is a special topic which we don't often hear at Hearts Aflame (or anywhere): Catholic Fiction. Sam Harris gave this lecture series titled 'Clothing Mystery in Words: How Contemporary Catholic Fiction Helps Us Live and Love' at the 2019 Summer School. Here's how he described it:
"'The Church needs artists,' said poet, playwright and pontiff Pope St John Paul II. “Every human being thirsts for the infinite, and art is one of the ways that lead him to it.” In these lectures we’ll begin with a brief look at how the Church has always prized good art. Then we’ll focus on contemporary literature: we’ll define today’s “Catholic fiction” and discuss how Catholic writers in the twenty-first century go about “grasping treasures from the heavenly realm of the spirit and clothing them in words ... - making them accessible,” as Pope St Paul VI put it. We’ll read some excerpts from recent novels and short stories and discuss how good Catholic fiction can be an important part of our efforts to deepen our faith, can aid our prayer, and can help us hear and follow our call as we walk with Christ into the infinite mystery of God’s love and mercy."

This week Fr Michael Therese CSJ gives his second and final lecture on 'Covenant Theology: An Introduction to the Bible'. Here's how he described his lecture series in 2020:
"The Covenants are a great key to understanding the story of Salvation History. In these lectures expect to be introduced to the heart of Scripture and to walk away with an understanding of what God has done for us. The bond between the Old and the New Testament and the importance of discovering Scripture in order to know Christ will be touched upon."

As we move towards the end of the year, 'discernment' is often something on our minds. What will I do next year? What is God calling me to? Should I take this job? Is it God's will that I make this change? In today's talk from 2019, Fr Robin Koning looks at how an Ignatian approach to discernment can help us with these questions.

This is the final lecture from Peter Holmes on 'The Old Testament and the Mass'. Check out the previous two episodes for lectures 1 and 2. Here's how he described this Lecture Series in 2019:
"Would you like a deeper understanding of the what we do in Church? Did you know that when we celebrate Mass we are continuing a liturgy that began over a thousand years before Christ? In these sessions we will explore how the ancient rites of the Hebrews, instituted by God through Moses, not only pointed toward the coming of Christ, but are still the foundation of our modern Mass."
