  • Ep 27 Avery Carper Down Home Pharmacy Memorial - Girl Scout Gold Award Project

Find our blog and more resources at http://heartsofgoldpodcast.com/

Avery shares her experience creating a memorial in her town for victims of a pharmacy shooting, including her fundraising and team. She also shares her cookie booth tips..

    More from Avery:

I have been a Girl Scout since 1st grade, this year makes my 12th year of scouts. I have been blessed to be able to partake in such a wonderful program. The skills I learned throughout the years are skills I would not have worked on anywhere else. I have done lots of service through Girl Scouts including my Silver and Gold Award. For my Silver Award my troop and I made cat toys out of unneeded baby socks for the cats at the local shelter. For my Gold Award I created a memorial for two shooting victims in my hometown. Girl Scouts has given me great opportunities and experiences that I will never forget.

As well as Girl Scouts, I am part of many other organizations. I was involved in Beta Club, Link Crew, Upward Bound, Art Club, and marching and concert band. I also took many dual enrollment classes, will graduate with State Distinction, and was in the top percentile of my graduating class. Next fall I plan to attend Tusculum University to major in Psychology and eventually earn my Doctorate. I have already been accepted into their honors program and will have academic scholarships as I attend there. I also plan to start my own scout troop after I finish furthering my education.

  • EP 25 Lindsey Pacela Podcast Thoughts for your Thoughts - Girl Scout Gold Award Project

Find our blog and more resources at http://heartsofgoldpodcast.com/

Lindsey shares her experience creating a podcast, struggles to find the right Girl Scout troop, and her plans for the future, including journalism and politics.

    More from Lindsey:

I have currently been in Girl Scouts for 13 years, which has been the quite the journey for me. When I was younger, my mom put me in the troop at my school to make friends, learn new skills, and have fun. Truthfully, for the majority of the time, I liked it, but I didn't love it. Up until my freshman year of high school, I had transferred troops a few times because mine didn't always have enough members to carry on. From freshman year to senior, the girls in my troop and myself became closer and closer as time went on. We went a camping trips, did cookie booths, and spent an over night trip at a girl scout house which began to bond us a lot closer than we ever had been before. Girl Scouts really helped me break out of my very small and anxious shell as a child.

One of my loves in life right now is being Co- Editor In Chief of my school's yearbook staff with my best friend. I get to do some of my favorite things in that class: writing, taking pictures, editing, managing tasks, and leading a group of people all working together towards such an important cause to us all (that moment of handing out the complete books to students at the end of the year really makes it all worth it).

My future plans are to attend the University of La Verne (I was recently accepted to) where I will be double majoring in political science and journalism. I am also planning to run for one of the next open positions on my district's school board (Chino Valley Unified School District) and hope to attain it through my unique perspective as being the first member on it to have ever actually gone through the education system in which it works for (giving me insight into what actually needs to be changed, as well as supported).

The ultimate job dream is to become a congress woman, but what my main plan at the moment is, is to become a political journalist, while still serving in my local government.
