When the world is screaming for the church to be more tolerant, the church ought to be crying more for the world to repent. God’s love does not equate to our definition of love. Agape love or Hessed, is refining, not indulgent. God defines love with actions and decisions to bring about His best for another. His love never gets conflicted with His nature of Holiness and Righteousness. Because God is Holy, He wants to restore the relationship man broke through our repentance and accepting the gift of His Son Jesus on the cross. Here in the book of Hosea we see God’s indictment upon the head of those who chose to create idols and worship themselves over His ways. But there is still hope for those who have ears to hear the Word of the Lord and choose to recognize their spiritual depravity without Jesus. Come and hear what the Lord has given to me to share.

We often wonder why God would take any of us into the wilderness. No one likes the feeling of loneliness, heat, lack of resources, and shelter. But God always has a purpose for leading His sheep into the wilderness. Today we discover those things and then what we need to learn in the midst of the wilderness. God is calling His own to return to Him through repentance. He is calling His own back to be restored and reconciled and redeemed. In Hosea 2, God calls to His beloved by letting her know of her atrocities toward Him. And that if they do not respond to His calling then He will strip her of every blessing and every good thing He has given to her. In other words, there is consequences for you and I, even Israel, for remaining in the rebellious sinful nature. But because He loves us, her, He has demonstrated His calling to draw her, us, back. There are a few principle lessons that can help us here to return to our Creator, our Redeemer, that can be drawn out of Hosea 2. Come and hear what the Lord has laid upon my heart.

God’s word is Irrevocably Perfect. We don’t deserve the scandalous love of God to chase us down because it doesn’t make sense to us. But Jesus did it anyway. He made a way back to Himself through the Son’s perfect gift of laying down His life for you and me. Come and hear of God’s desire to take delight in those He loves. Come and hear that even though He hates sin, that hate is what drives His amazing grace and love to free you from the sinful nature. His love is greater than our rebellion but we must choose to surrender our will to His perfect will; confront our sin, repent of our sin, and take comfort in His restoration and redemption. WOW what love is this? Come and hear!

What do we think about when you hear about the minor prophets? Perhaps many in our churches are unfamiliar with these books unless referenced in a pastors sermon on other topics. Today we begin a series of sermons that will take us through the 12 books of the minor prophets to discover the character and nature of God. This morning we begin in Hosea where God tells Hosea to take a wife who then turn to wandering ways of prostitution and adultery. Can this be relevant for the church today? The answer is absolutely. We are called to be faithful to our betrothed and turn away from our wandering ways.

How many of us struggle to converse about Jesus to another person? We don’t struggle with striking conversations about the weather, traffic, cars, kids, grandkids, education, finances, taxes, and our homes. But we struggle with striking conversations about the One who set us free. I suggest today that we struggle to be obedient because of our nature and perhaps how we view the great commission. Too many times in the church words get thrown around as taboo because they are too tough. Jesus is tough on sin. He called us to repent and turn away from our sin that we may go through the process of sanctification. This word in my Christ journey has been one such word.
