We need a hero! All of us are drawn to heroes, but few of us are called to heroism. Jesus is our example of heroism. And we have been called to be set apart for the work of Christ by God the Father. Paul addresses Christ’s unparalleled example of heroism to us and helps us understand that all who follow Christ are called to be heroes. A hero lays aside themselves for the benefit of others. Jesus is our ultimate example. And we are called to do the same. Amen.

Part 6 of the letters to the churches comes from Jesus in Revelation 3:7-13. Jesus writes this letter to the Philadelphia church who is being faithful to The Word, to their confession of Christ in the midst of suffering for His names sake, and dealing with Jews who are using their heritage against them.
