In this episode, we predominantly explored the trailblazing 1973 title Belladonna of Sadness, a masterful work that serves as a scintillating and fascinatingly bizarre work of art. We also spoke about the Junji Ito-inspired RPG World of Horror, an engaging and genuinely disturbing creation with truly endless replay value. We also briefly touched upon our visit to the cinema to see Akira, an anime classic that really should need no introduction.

In this episode we dive into Abara, Tsutomu Nihei’s brutalist cybernetic hellscape. We also provided a more critical analysis in the form of our Lily C.A.T. review. To close off we covered two additional topics, the first being a discussion of whether manga can be enjoyable solely based on its art while the other is a discussion on the changing dynamic of Japanese to American cultural crossover. This began with 90’s OVAs pulling from western media, and has now evolved into the same western companies whitewashing or even more heavily pulling from anime to appeal to wider, more culturally sensitive audiences.

Episode 4 is a very special installment of Heaven's Arena. Our usual discussion covers in length Osamu Tezuka's 1970 psychedelic manga Apollo's Song, however we are also joined by Tethra 64 for an in depth interview about his favourite anime, his thoughts on the industry and some seriously hot takes.

In this episode we discuss Inio Asano’s manga Solanin and Mamoru Oshii & Yoshitaka Amano’s 1985 movie Angels Egg. As well as this we interviewed producer ELF whose credits include Trippie Red, Lil Peep, Famous Dex and many more. ELF has heavily been inspired by anime and manga growing up and has translated this into his production, we discuss his favourites and why he feels anime & manga is so popular within underground hip hop.
