Yeshua was the giver of the Torah at Mt Sinai. Yeshua tells us that the way we are to love him is to keep His commandments and follow the Torah.

Yeshua said in John 14:15: "If you love me, keep my commands." In this verse Yeshua is using the principle of remez, to "hint" at something. He was making a connection to the Ten commandments in Exodus 20:6 where it is written: "I show mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. He was making the connection for His followers that to follow HIM and love HIM is follow the Torah by the Spirit.

There are four primary levels for understanding the Torah:

*pshat/ surface level/literal or simple meaning of the verse

*remez/ to hint or to make an allusion

*drash/to draw out/to make connections/example: hidden meaning of parables

*sod/deepest spiritual level/the heart of the Torah

The acronym for these four levels of study is PARDES. In Hebrew, this means garden or orchard. Learning Torah is like walking through a garden.

Just as the soul clothes itself in a human body, the rabbis teach that the Torah assumed the form of a living man all the way back at the garden of Eden. The book of John tells us this:

“In the beginning was the word/Torah and the word/Torah was with God and the word/Torah was God. And the Word (the Torah) was made flesh, and dwelt among us. John 1:1,14

The word (Torah) made flesh is Yeshua. The Torah is likened unto a man. The outer part of a man is skin. This is parallel to the pshat level of Torah study. Underneath the skin is muscle. This could be likened to the remez level of Torah study. Underlying the muscle is the skeletal frame. This could be likened to the drash level of Torah study. The heart and soul of a man is unseen, yet clothed in a human body. The heart and soul of Torah is found at the sod (hidden) level.
