In the last session, we saw that the exiles of Israel are viewed by the God of Israel as poor, needy, afflicted, deaf, blind, lame, poor, leprous, and wounded. They are regarded as being dry bones, and an adulterous wife, unclean, and sold into the nations. We also saw that the end of the exile is seen as the healing to the wound; when Yeshua one day gathers the scattered exiles and leads them on a journey home to Israel, this is the healing to the wound. In understanding these terms, we can see that these are the people who Yeshua came to minister to. Yeshua’s ministry is associated with the exiles of Israel and ultimately, He will restore the nation of Israel and gather the exiles who are now scattered to the nations.
In this session, we will also see that there are exiles of Israel who are “near” and who are “far off”. Daniel understood this when he prayed a prayer of repentance in Daniel 9:7:
Lord, righteousness belongs unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee.
Yet there is hope. Though both Northern kingdom (House of Israel) and Southern Kingdom (House of Judah) have been scattered to all the nations of the earth, Yahweh promises that IF they return to Him and to His Torah, THEN He will gather them and return them to the land of Israel.
and IF you return to the LORD your God and obey His voice, according to all that I command you today, you and your children, with all your heart and with all your soul, THEN the LORD your God will bring you back from captivity, and have compassion on you, and gather you again from all the nations where the LORD your God has scattered you. If any of you are driven out to the farthest parts under heaven, from there the LORD your God will gather you, and from there He will bring you.Deuteronomy 30: 2-3
