Scripture: Hebrews 10:1-18 Exodus 25:40 Psalm 40:6-8, The Law was but a shadow of the good things to come. God told the Hebrews to make everything according to the shadow of things seen on the mountain (i.e. tabernacle, priesthood, sacrificial system). See Exodus 25:40. The shadow is not the end, it is a means to the end. The preacher to the Hebrews asks, "Why would you desire the shadow, when far better things are to come?" The Law could not make perfect those that draw near to God: the shadow cannot totally purify. The shadow is dependent on that which is doing the casting, in this case, the Cross of Christ. The only way to draw near to the Father is through the Son. Salvaton has everything to do with Jesus on the Cross and nothing to do with our effort and works. Through the Old Testament sacrificial system, God forgave sins on the basis of Christ's sacrifice. Only through faith in Christ were these sacrifices pleasing to God. Speaking through the psalmist, the Lord fulfills and ends the old sacrifices that He Himself set up. This
