The character, known only to the listening audience as the Whistler, was the host and narrator of the tales which focused on crime and fate. He frequently commented upon the action as was done in a Greek chorus in Ancient Greek tragedy, comedy, satyr plays... when a group of performers commented in a collective voice on the dramatic action. The show was also known for the haunting signature theme tune composed by Wilbur Hatch and featured Dorothy Roberts whistling with an orchestra. 692 episodes were produced and 200 of them no longer exist. These are all excellent shows in content, technical production, and acting. Gale Gordon, Joseph Kearns, Marvin MIller, Bill Johnstone, Hans Conried, Cathy Lewis, Elliott Lewis, Gerald Mohr, Lurene Tuttle, Jack Webb... made up the supporting cast. They were all "Cadillac-Level"performers! More "Whistler" in the "Mystery Detective Crime" Playlist
