Jean Hersholt was so convincing as a Doctor, he received thousands of requests for medical advice during the many years this series was on the air. This show actually has two titles. Episode 35 - "Learning of Arghun's Teacher" and Epi 36 - "Visiting the Dungeon" The very talented vocal artist, producer and director - George Edwards stars in the roles of both Kubla Khan and Marco Polo. This series went into production in the late 1930's and was well received in Australia. The series was then copied onto 16" transcription disks and sent to stations all over the world as a syndicated program. The production values our outstanding. This is an episode from "The Witch's Tale" - The Devil's Number (13)... you will find out why when you hear the Salem Witch, Old Nancy and her cat, Satan... tell you the tale. One side note that perhaps the creator, Alonzon Deen Cole, must have done on purpose... each time Old Nancy introduces herself in one of the shows, her age changes... by alot... In July of 1943 Dupont Cavalcade of America saluted 167 years of American freedom and presented "Listen to the People" by Stephen Vincent Benet and starring Ethel Barrymore.

"Listen to the People" sounded a prophetic warning when it was first presented on July 4th 1941 and in corporation with the Council For Democracy over the NBC Blue Network, and in this rebroadcast we hear it in retrospect. Given the situation in America and the world today, this program has a message that is as valuable now as it was then... maybe even more so.

One of my favorite writers is Mark Twain... He wrote so much more than "Huckleberry Finn" and "Tom Sawyer"... in the early days of radio before there were networks, big studios, adapted plays, original plays... there were often "readings"... the host of a program would do a few readings... often it was on religion or politics... but some like Will Rogers were humorists and political commentators. Mark Twain certainly falls into that category. So though this isn't original old radio... yours truly is reading three short essays by Mark Twain... They are entitled "Accidents" "Ants" and "Insanity". I hope you enjoy them as much as I did as I sat before the microphone and read them aloud. This will be stored in the Radio History playlist
