A radio panel game in which comedians told jokes and tried to top on another. It was an unrehearsed program. Featuring the vaudvillain "Senator" Edward Hastings Ford, Harry Hershfield, and Joe Laurie, Jr.

Listeners were invited to send in jokes. Host, Peter Donald told the best of these jokes, each one on a different topic, while a "laugh meter" measured the audience reaction on a scale of 0 to 1,000. Then the "Knights of the Clown Table"... Ford, Hershfield, and Laurie,Jr - tried to top listeners with their own jokes that had to be tied to the same topic. Listeners whose jokes were read got $10 and a bonus of $5 for each panelist who failed to outscore it with his own joke for a maximum prize of $25. The panel claimed they knew 15,000 jokes. Show was on WOR in NYC in 1940 and picked up by NBC in 1942 to 1954. A version of the show went to TV but only lasted one year from 1950-51. Fun show to listen to....certainly different. Audio Intro gives information about the series and the actor William Boyd and introduces the track "Mystery of Skull Valley".... this was a popular television, motion picture and radio show. Hopalong Cassidy was on radio from 1948 to 1950 but was also run in syndication. William Boyd was not only a popular western hero character, he was an amazing business man and secured a considerable amount of wealth through the sale of "Hopalong" toys, lunch pails (I had one!), film production... and his estate's net worth as of 2020 was 1.25 Billion dollars. Space Patrol was on ABC Radio from March 1950 to February of 1955. The television version was on at that same time! Commander-in-Chief Buzz Corry (Ed Kemmer) of the United Planets Space Patrol and his young sidekick, Cadet Happy (Lyn Osborn) faced interplanetary villains with diabolical schemes... in every show. They produced 210 thirty minute TV episodes, 900 fifteen minute episodes and 129 radio episodes. The same cast performed in both the radio and television series. Only 117 of the original broadcasts survive. The 1954 program consistently ranked in the top 10 shows broadcast on a Saturday. A popular comedy heard on radio from 1945-47 featuring a very talented man who not only wrote the scripts, but played the lead of a Greek immigrant who opens his own restaurant - "Parky's"... Each show involves some sort of problem that Parky... Mr. Parkurkakas... found himself entwined in. Members of the cast try to help him in a variety of ways, generally not successful. The show follows the formula of most sitcoms during this era with a monolog, some skits built around the theme of the evening, and a few vocalists who not only act in the cast, but sing a couple of songs ... you know, to try to calm Nick Parkurkakas down!
