It was great to connect with Pastor Nate Liedtke from New Life in Norwalk Iowa. Usually my podcasts are 30 minutes long but when two pastors start talking it goes just a bit longer. Today my former boss Chris Thomson joins me to talk about Apologetics. Chris was one of the best bosses I ever had! Many times I would stop into his office to ask something work related and several minutes later I would leave after a great conversation. Chris has a heart and gift for sharing and defending the Christian faith or Apologetics. Apologetics is defined as "reasoned arguments or writings in justification of something, typically a theory or religious doctrine." 

1 Peter 3:15 "but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,"  Defense in Greek is the word  ἀπολογία (apologia) and that is where the word Apologetics comes from. Defend your faith with gentleness and respect!! No apologies needed for that!!

Nice, Humble, Approachable.....all words I would use to describe Mike Martens. Mike and I crossed paths over 20 years ago but in the last few years we have heard the same calling from God to step out of our comfort zone and be the men that God has called us to be. Does that mean we have all the answers? NO WAY!!  Mike shares some of his passions and his experience playing college football for the University of Iowa. Mike was a wide receiver for Iowa from 1988 to 1991. Mike has 1 catch for 8 yards and a touchdown that occurred in a game on September 28 1991 against Northern Illinois University. As you can hear from our conversation Mike would rather talk about fishing and his family than his football career.

We are back after a short 8 week break! I was away taking a summer class at seminary and felt I needed to devote 100% of my efforts to that class...but now that it is done I have invited one of my very best friends (yes say that in your Forest Gump voice when he talks about Bubba) Mike Gathercole. Mike is a former Marine and at the core of our friendship is respect that we have built over the years. Thanks in advance for listening!! This week I am sharing a message a gave on Father's Day at The Gate in Ankeny. It is part of a message series titled "The Gospel As". On Father's Day the title was "The Gospel as Property". I had never thought of the Gospel as property before I wrote this message. Frankly I was a bit reluctant to write and give this message because it made me look at things in a way that I hadn't done before. Grab a beverage and listen!
