We already have the technology to build a genuinely extraordinary future... so why aren't we building it?

In 2009, I walked into a grad school class called "Lean Management and Building Shareholder Value" and expected to be bored out of my mind. Instead, it was where I first heard an idea that's guided how I think about literally everything since.

Nobody understands the federal budget. Not you, not me, not most people in government. And that's not a bug… it's the system working exactly as designed.

The people capturing the gains from A.I. are hiring lobbyists, funding campaigns, and having dinner with senators. Meanwhile, a lot of us are on the sidelines saying, "What's the point; government is worthless!"

Money isn't a thing. It's a promise. And once you see that, everything else — global debt, the gold standard, the petrodollar, even billionaires — clicks into place as one story.

Two groups of people tell me the future is decided. One says a dystopian hellhole is inevitable. The other says abundance is inevitable. Completely different futures, both hiding a faulty core assumption: “inevitability.”

Everything A.I. can do, it learned from us. Our language. Our knowledge. Our data. But are you seeing the returns, or just the disruption? We all deserve better!

The barrier between having an idea and reaching a million people has never been smaller. So why are most brilliant ideas still dying in someone's head?
