Tempe Gradin talks about Covid-19 diagnosis vs Autism Diagnosis

Being that autism is preferred to on the medical model, many individuals go through special education and are placed in transition programs into adulthood.  Within these programs are professionals who often think they can define each individual and control their parents or guardians. However,  am here to tell you that your life is not over just because these people say so. You are the only one who knows whether it is over or not.

Though there are laws in place, people don't always abide by them when it comes to disability rights and laws.  Many people on the spectrum, like other members of a target group have to stand up for what they believe in.

Last night, I had the honor of interviewing Dr. Temple Grandin about sensory issues, which you can find in the archives.  Even more so, you can other resources by Temple on the resource page on Podbean.  In honor of that interview here are some of my sensory issues.

Most recently it has been proven that science-based evidence now proves that autism comes with sensory issues.   They can come in many different forms in which some forms of sensory issues which can be anything more tactile or touch while others deal with auditory or loud noises.  Finally, things related to loud noises can also deal with sensory issues.

Just like I had talked about with Dr. Holmes on Sunday, people on the spectrum often struggle to make friends.  Thus, they find themselves prey to people who are predators and those who have an agenda who appear to be friends but they really are not.   However, here are some ways to determine whether people have red flag.

Like all movies about people with autism, Rain Main, starring Dustin Hoffman, is a movie that has given society a false representation.   Though I will admit that Hoffman did a good job nailing down a person who lives on the spectrum,  I hate that film, and I will give me two cents on it.

People on the spectrum often struggle to find friends along with defining who is a friend and who is not.   In this podcast, I talk about learning to pick up on hints and cues which define those things because as you know, actions can speak louder than words.

As Dr. Stephanie Holmes, the co-host of Converge Autism Radio had clarified with me last night, masking for women on the spectrum often mask, which she said is a form of blending in and not fitting into their environments.  However, she also stated that masking can be extremely unhealthy for women who live on the spectrum.
