Jesus promises, and invites us to actively wait for, a world in which justice will not be a crude compromise bought by those with enough money to afford it, but in which new life will rise out of the ashes of crushed hopes and dreams.

Zacchaeus knows that redemption from sin is not consummated through

tearful confession in a worship service. The redeemed are transformed by the

presence of Christ to live lives that include things like personal and systemic

justice-making

When we size up others with the assumption that our faith, our religiosity, our

spirituality is somehow better than theirs, we have abandoned our faith in God

and our need for Christ, substituting for them, self-justification
