Henrico County officials on Wednesday morning formally celebrated the reopening of Cheswick Park – the county’s first park – following an 11-month renovation effort. Cheswick Park originally opened on 24.5 acres on Forest Avenue in the Near West End in 1980, thanks to funding from a 1977 bond referendum. The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program is returning to Eastern Henrico to help residents file their taxes for free. The program has offered free tax help to more than 78 million taxpayers at almost 3,500 locations across the United States since 1968. Henrico Schools opened its new 85,000-square-foot Advanced Career Education Center building at Hermitage High School on Jan. 8 for students in the Workforce & Career Development program. Henrico Schools officials have made March 5 a student holiday, since more than 50 Henrico schools will serve as polling places for the Virginia presidential primary that day. The school division said it expects voter turnout to be significant, which could bring large numbers of visitors to school campuses. All public school buildings will be open only for voting. The Henrico Division of Police will hold a rabies vaccination clinic for cats and dogs Feb. 10 at the Henrico Western Government Center. The clinic will run from 9 a.m. to noon, and all pets must be registered and paid at the cashier’s office before going to the clinic. Each vaccine costs and must be paid in cash. A human trafficking curriculum that started as a pilot project at two Henrico County high schools is being expanded to all 22 of the school division’s middle and high schools.
