Rebecca “Becky” Camper Davis passed peacefully on January 4, 2024 in her home of 62 years in Richmond, VA. Becky, 91, was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Harry Thomas Davis Jr.; parents, Benjamin Taylor Camper and Irma Gross Camper; siblings, Rosa Lee (Webbie) Williamson, Jackie (Billy) Marshall, and Larry Camper; sister-in-law, Marie Camper, and great-grandchild, Magnolia Belt. Geraldine S. Patterson, 94, of Henrico, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 4, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, E.J. “Pat” Patterson; three sons, Roger, Danny, and Charles Patterson; four brothers; four sisters; and two grandchildren, Nikki and E.J. Patterson. Leland Franklin Webb, 91, long-time editor of a once-renowned Baptist missions magazine, died January 8, 2024, following a brief illness. He was a resident of Lakewood retirement center since early 2023. A native of McAlester, OK, Webb served for 32 years – 15 of those years as editor – on the staff of the award-winning The Commission magazine, at one time a publication of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Foreign (now International) Mission Board. John Louis Sullivan, 98 years old, of Sandston, VA passed away on January 9, 2024. He was born on November 12, 1925, in Varina, VA. He was married to Lois Harris Sullivan for 66 years. He is predeceased by his wife, Lois Sullivan; his mother, Naomi Adams Allen; and his brother, Frank M. Sullivan, Jr. He is survived by three sons, David (Marilyn), Douglas (Marcia), Daniel (Vicky); six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Sportable, an adaptive sports club, Jan. 11 recognized six Foundational partners that assisted the club in bringing the National Wheelchair Basketball Association's Adult and Junior Division national championships to Virginia for the first time. A local insurance company will move to the Libbie Mill Midtown redevelopment in Henrico County. The Percy Barnett State Farm Insurance Agency will be opening a retail suite in the community's Tanner Row building, developer Gumenick Properties announced Jan. 12. Henrico Schools will host its 2024 Career and Technical Education Career Rodeo Skills Challenge Jan. 23 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Richmond Raceway Complex. The annual event will provide an opportunity for students to showcase their skills and creativity to potential employers. Members of the Association for the Preservation of Henrico Antiquities gathered Jan. 7 in Sandston to unveil a new tabletop marker that commemorates the history of the Meadows Fire Tower on Williamsburg Road. The tower is the last of two located in the county that previously were used as fire lookouts. Today, the Meadows tower holds communications equipment. I had the pleasure of spending a recent evening at The Kitchen Classroom over the holidays, cooking (and eating!) a meal featuring "Flavors of Morocco." (There are also classes featuring Greek, French, Portuguese, Italian, Korean, Cajun and Creole cuisine, and more.)
