The City of Richmond, the Town of Ashland, and the Counties of Henrico, Chesterfield, Powhatan, Hanover, and New Kent rarely have much in common, but later this year all six localities will enjoy expanded access to public transportation thanks to a planned microtransit pilot program run by the Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC). Henrico supervisors are poised to join other Richmond-area localities by enacting a tourism improvement district that would levy a 2% tax on hotel rooms at hotels with more than 41 rooms. The money raised through the fee – anticipated to total .2 million in the first year – must be used to expand visitation and hotel occupancy through marketing and sales efforts as well as incentives for events like sports tournaments and conventions to be held in the area, according to the proposal's language. The Virginia Department of Transportation will implement overnight double lane closures on the westbound lanes of I-64 in Henrico Monday, April 3 until Thursday, April 6 as part of a bridge rehabilitation project. The double lane closures will take place on I-64 west between Parham Road (mile marker 181.5) to Gaskins Road (mile marker 180) between the hours of 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily during the period. Signs will be posted in advance of the work location notifying traffic of the closures, and motorists should expect delays in the area. Henrico officials March 30 celebrated the beginning of an additional phase of enhancements to Creighton Road in Eastern Henrico. Officials held a ground-breaking ceremony to mark the beginning of work to construct a wider, realigned section of Creighton Road, between North Laburnum Avenue and Sandy Lane; and a new section of Dabbs House Road, which will intersect with Creighton about 500 feet west of the roads’ existing intersection. Richard "Rick" A. Taylor, 79, of Center Cross, VA, formally from Glen Allen, passed away suddenly, Sunday, March 12, 2023.
