Three Chopt District Supervisor Tommy Branin this week announced that he will seek re-election to a third term on the Henrico Board of Supervisors. Branin first was elected in 2015, following the retirement of longtime Three Chopt Supervisor Dave Kaechele. That year, he won a three-way race, earning 53% of the vote to Democrat Bob Shippee’s 39% and independent Eric Rohnacher’s 7%. He earned re-election in 2019, when he faced no opposition. In an effort to improve access to affordable housing and employee retention, Henrico officials are advancing plans to help some county employees pay for their first home purchases. Officials anticipate that million in the proposed Fiscal Year 2023-24 budget will be earmarked for down-payment and closing cost assistance, which could help about 120 employees, Varina District Supervisor Tyrone Nelson told the Citizen. In the past, I have addressed friendships in adulthood, parenting struggles, seasonal pressures among other topics. Southern States Cooperative is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2023 with several public events at its West Broad Street retail location, as well as employee celebration events at its headquarters in Brookfield Place.  Among the events will be the opening of a time capsule that was installed when the headquarters opened in Henrico County in the late 1970s. Henrico Fire officials are citing a brush fire that burned 70 acres in Varina Saturday as evidence that Virginia’s fire season has arrived. The blaze, which burned land near Deep Bottom Boat Landing, didn’t cause any injuries or damage to structures but was described as a “once-in-a-decade” event by Henrico Fire Battalion Chief Doug Reynolds. Henrico Fire and Virginia Department of Forestry officials brought it under control in about five hours.
