Join me as I chat with Tijana Sharp about her dual role as a PhD candidate and casual academic and how she uses her skillset in clinical practice.
About Tijana:
I am a current PhD Candidate and casual academic at UTS in the School of Sport and Exercise Science and Rehabilitation. My research focuses on High-Intensity Multimodal Training in the general population. I am particularly interested in how various methods of prescription influence the training stimulus and adaptations within this training mode.
In my teaching role at UTS I love working with first year uni students and spend a lot of my face to face teaching time in anatomy subjects where I strive to motivate students to learn in an applied manner right from the beginning of their degree.
With my AES background I also have experience applying exercise interventions (in particular Pilates) to help clients achieve their goals! This time as a practitioner has also led to the co-founding of the Active Education Program. This program offers Pilates based professional development to allied health professionals.

I share how I communicate this to clients and health professionals in the hope of building our reputation within women’s health care. I hope this episode helps you deepen your understanding of your own role and how you differ from a physiotherapist and a personal trainer.
And if you are not an EP hopefully you will no longer be thinking ‘what does an EP even do’

Join Noella and I as we dive into working with female athletes as an exercise physiologist.
Noella has been an AEP and AES since 2008. After leaving university in Far North Queensland, Noella's long-term aspiration is to have her own business where she can provide clinical support to regional communities. With a background in elite level rugby she faced many challenges that all women in sport face, including the impact this level of training has on the menstrual cycle and the lack of support when transitioning into pregnancy. Noella's clinical focus shifted to female health and wellbeing in physical activity and sports. She contributes to the AIS Female Performance and Health Initiative Industry Reference Group and conducts female athlete workshops across various sporting groups and their pathway programs throughout NSW.
