This episode is personal. I’m pulling back the curtain on my real, raw relationship with money—how I grew up with it, lost it, feared it, and finally learned how to master it.
Growing up, money came in waves. When things were good, they were really good. My dad kept an envelope of cash in a cupboard, and we could take what we needed—it was always there. Until it wasn’t. The 2008 recession hit, and we lost it all. We had to sell our home and downsize. Suddenly, spending money felt wrong—even for things like prom and graduation.
Fast forward to my first 9-5 job, and I had zero savings, no investments, and a ‘spend it while I have it’ mindset. My paychecks disappeared on gas, eating out, and going out with friends. I had no financial plan—just the belief that money would always come and go, just like it did in my childhood.
But then, everything changed. Starting my own business forced me to face my money fears head-on.
- I had to trust myself to make financial decisions.
- I had to unlearn the scarcity mindset that told me money wasn’t safe.
- I had to get comfortable holding wealth instead of spending it as soon as it hit my account.
This episode is about the real challenges, the aha moments, and the mindset shifts that helped me break free from the cycle of financial stress.
