This is a conversation with Jordan Marie Brings Three White Horses Daniel. She is a fourth-generation runner and is known for her advocacy work, where she represents the rights of women and Indigenous people - and more broadly she is passionately committed to anti-racism work.

She has founded a grassroots organisation called Rising Hearts Coalition, that defends Native rights, organises rallies, produces documentary films and marches for social justice and environmental issues. In 2019 she received global attention and visibility for the epidemic of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls (MMIWG) through her platform of running.. During the 2019 Boston marathon she dedicated her run to 26 Indigenous women - she painted a red hand print on her face, spelt let the letters MMIW on her legs and each mile she recited one of their names and made a prayer for them.

Not exclusively, this conversation explores her journey into activism: as a lobbyist, on a grassroots platform and through the vehicle of running. You will hear Jordan's journey to this point, the emotional and physical toll she has experienced and how she is learning to support & sustain herself for the long run.

You would be hard pressed to find someone in the ultra running & trail community who doesn't know Lucy Bartholomew. She's been a 'rule bender' since she entered the ultra arena at the age of 15 when she took part in the Surf Coast Century 100km event. Running alongside her ultra running Dad, she took his instructions and ran with a smile on her face ear-to-ear in an attempt to dismantle the controversy that a minor (under the age of 18) was too young to be racing an endurance event. Fast forward 9 years - Lucy is a professional ultra athlete sponsored by Salomon Australia, Suunto, SPRING energy and Le Bent. She travels the globe racing and facilitating running workshops and retreats. In 2017, Lucy had her breakout year when she ran 15 events and was the first female in 8 of them. In 2018 with single minded focus she pushed her personal boundaries and placed third in the highly contested Western States 100 in California, her 100 mile debut. With reflection and time, Lucy now see's this result in a more holistic perspective. Although proud of what she achieved, Lucy discusses the toll she placed on her body, mind and spirit to achieve that result. That intensity was not sustainable and she is still working through the consequences of it. We discuss the challenges and pressures of the sport, in addition to the freedom and depth of experience it has given her.

Lucy's candour is refreshing. We discuss LOTS in this conversation including: her rise onto the international racing arena. The internal and external turmoil of neglecting recovery and the long term toll endurance racing can have if you are not mindful & healthy. Her growth mindset for new experiences ~ inside and beyond running. How she processes both public scrutiny and praise. Her love of plant based food and for sharing her learnings with her community.

In my eyes Lucy is far more than an ultra runner ~ she is an entrepreneur who designs and sells Team Lucy kit; she is an advocate for the environment and will soon be a self published author of a recipe book.... and she's only just getting started!

Jess Fox will blow you away. She is a humble young-gun who has represented Australia since 2009 in canoe slalom in both kayaking (K1W) and canoe (CIW). Over the past 10 years Jess has acquired 26 x World Cup Gold medals, 7 x World Championship titles, and 2 x Olympic medals. Jess is also a Redbull athlete.

We deep dive into the world of her sport, the differences for male and female athletes.

At the time of our recording Jess was supposed to be in Tokyo training on the Olympic course. With the Olympic Games being postponed to July 2021, we discuss the shift in Jess's training; how she regulates emotions - through challenges and set backs and how she is coping without the constant change of travel and location - which she deems is a vital part of her mental training. We explore how the AIS is supporting our Olympians during this time, what Jess is doing outside of training and her musings to life after Olympics.

Jess was born to Olympian and multiple world champion paddle parents. At the age of 25 her achievements saw her surpass the records set by her parents and earned her the title of "World's Greatest Paddler". She's a clever lady and was Dux of her school with an ATAR of 99.1We explore the role her family has played in her sporting journey.

"This is your one time on the planet to go follow your dreams, hug your family more, to go after what you enjoy the most". So Nick Butter (30 years old British runner) chose to create history on November 11th 2019, becoming the first human to complete a marathon in every single one of the world's 196 UN-recognised countries.

The 22 month odyssey is not one to be glamourised. It is the result of commitment, grit, immense preparation, faith, agility and an incredible team. Nick logged 455 flights (that's an average of four a week), accrued nine passports and went through 15 pairs of runners. He ran past erupting volcanoes. He ran through torrential downpours. He ran in scorching heat. He ran 82 laps around Vatican City, 140 laps around an ambassador's garden in Jamaica and 335 laps around a parking lot in the Marshall Islands to avoid packs of wild dogs.

This conversation looks more into how he formed his resolute mindset - with a solid dash of naivety; family and network support and the words of his close friend Kevin Webber etched in his brain. Kevin has terminal prostate cancer and was given a two year life prognosis. He told Nick - "Don't wait for a diagnosis. Don't wait for something in your world to kick you up the backside. Don't wait for something to go wrong in order for you to make a change and follow your dreams."

We explore the complexity in this World Record and the nuts and bolts of how he constructed the initial blueprint. This conversation talks about the power of the human mind to overcome physical adversity and the evolution of our relationship with our parents, children, partners & most importantly self. Hayley and I discuss the threat of personal safety for female runners, something that was triggered for her as she ran early and in the dark throughout the Calendar Club (a 750km running challenge through the month of April). Having trained in karate since the age of 3, she shares her knowledge in how to hone your awareness in order to mitigate potential and real risks. Hayley explains her propensity to being a sponge of knowledge in order to venture into unfamiliar arenas and how she has created lasting change to her local community by having conviction and starting now.

Hayley grew up in Yamba, a small coastal town in northern New South Wales - at the mouth of the Clarence River. In a journey to discover herself (not as a mother, a daughter or a wife) she embarked on an adventure to become the first person to solo kayak the 400km length of the Clarence River, the largest river system on the east coast of Australia. Her two year journey to that start line required her to learn bush, survival, navigation and skills in hunting, trapping, foraging and using plants for medicinal purposes. She had never kayaked before beginning this journey.

She is a mother of two beautiful boys, a Director for a co-working space called Blanc Space and the National Operations manager for James Baroud. She is a writer, poet, ambassador, passionate about the environment and making real & sustained change.

Anoop is a scientist with the Centre for Climate Change Research at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology. In February he returned for his third expedition to Antarctica where he led a team of 40 scientists. His teams objective were to collect data to help improve the future predictions of climate change. We discuss what that job really entails and what it's like to lead a team in an environment which is socially isolating as well as physically and mentally stressful. He explains the changes he's seen to global warming, from a data perspective, over the 6 years he's been travelling to Antarctica. We also look at the small yet large steps an individual can make to reduce their carbon footprint.

Based in Pune, India - Anoop shares how Covid-19 has impacted his life and the life of those in India at large. The Prime Minister announced a nation-wide lockdown with a four hour notice period, which required the entire population of 1.3 billion to be indoors. We talk about a human need to be returned to one's family as a powerful means for survival despite severe adversity. As well as the power of community to come together to support each other during crisis and need.

Anoop has a yearning to make science accessible for all, which led him to create the 'Pune Science on Tap'. He hosts social sessions where scientists are required to explain scientific topics in a lighthearted, relatable and enjoyable manner. He has presented a TEDx talk and has a knack of communicating scientific topics in a way that makes sense.

Dan is one of Australia's leading actors and television presenters, with a career spanning over 22 years. Strike Back, Neighbours, The Bill, Infini, Dancing with the Stars, Wild Boys and City Homicide are just some of the shows you would may have seen him on. He has travelled the globe for his craft, pushed the boundaries and been on the hunt for growth. He poignantly states: "I now view collaboration as king and must remain king. Where ego will isolate, spirit will collaborate."

For someone whose lived out of suitcase since a 17 year old, he shares how Covid-19 has allowed him to be in the one spot, using this pause to be present. Lockdown has also been a gift of time to bring the "needle back to zero", immersing into a new life shift - as a first time father with his five month old son. We talk about mental focus at the cost at times of balance.

There are many nuggets of wisdom for those pursuing career paths that are highly competitive or where the odds are stacked against you. He emphasis that successful actors and individuals are not ones that wait for work to come to them, that you need to use every opportunity to create and develop. Dan is a weapon of an athlete!!! In my opinion he is an example of someone who makes the most of ALL available hours in a day, training for triathlons & IRONMAN at a high level and also working as an actor. Dan admits the pitfalls of trying to pursue both simultaneously (e.g. when he first moved to LA and was training like a pro athlete - resulting in a skinny physical frame, not ideal for the military/DEA agent roles he was auditioning for.)

We discuss Jennifer's feature directorial debut 'Motherland' - which explores the timeless subjects of grief and healing. When six women from the US - all of whom have experienced a devastating loss - and travel together to volunteer with children in need in South Africa. This film had its world premiere at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival, winning the prestigious Emerging Visions Audience Award.
