Wetlands are among the most biologically diverse ecosystems on the planet. Aside from their natural beauty and fascinating ecology, their continued flourishing is essential to human flourishing. They are crucial to conserve, protect, and restore.
Due to their variegated nature, it's difficult to provide a single general resource for wetlands conservation. Much of the work is done by local groups who specialize in their unique areas. We encourage you to engage with institutions connected to environments you care about -- whether that be the Pantanal, Sundarbans, or the neighborhood park -- in whatever capacity you feel comfortable with. Research, volunteering, donating, and talking to friends are all valid ways to contribute!
For those looking for more specific resources:
If you're living in the US, volunteering with local or state parks is a great way of connecting with experienced individuals, and thereby get more involved.
If you'd like to help out with waterways more generally, the Ocean Cleanup Project is an organization working on platforms to clean rivers: https://theoceancleanup.com/donate/
The Ocean Conservancy works with coastal marshlands, and has both volunteering and donation opportunities (disclosure: Noah did work with them for a bit): https://oceanconservancy.org/
Let Them Eat Shrimp, by Kennedy Warne, is a captivating look at how mangroves play a pivotal role in the world's biosphere and its economy (disclaimer: Noah says the first chapter is skippable).Sustained, collective effort makes an enormous impact. By participating in those efforts, you make an enormous impact.
