The contents of today’s Scripture passage describe what God said to Solomon when He appeared to him the second time, after Solomon had finished building the Temple and his palace. God said here that He had especially consecrated His House, and that His eyes and His heart would be there. He then said to Solomon, “If you follow Me and walk with the same heart as your father David, then I will bless your descendants to succeed your throne. If, however, you do not worship Me but worship other gods and commit idolatry, then I will forsake even this Temple that had taken you seven years to build.”

When the first world was judged by flood, only Noah’s family of eight survived, and so all the tribes in the new world after the flood descended from Noah’s sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Today, I would like to first examine the mighty hunter called Nimrod from the genealogy of Ham, one of Noah’s three sons.

Today’s Scripture passage describes the genealogy of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. God says here that it’s from these three men that the entire human race sprang forth to spread around the world. In other words, every existing race or nation has all descended from Noah’s three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. So the ancestry of the human race is traced back to Noah and his three sons. Today’s Scripture passage writes which tribes have stemmed from each of these three sons.

The lineage of every race on this planet earth is traced back to Noah and his sons and daughters-in-law, who began to multiply once again when they emerged out of the ark at the end of the flood. The Bible says, “Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there. Then they said to one another, ‘Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.’” This indicates, that the people of that time were trying to build a closely entwined society, to avoid being scattered around. Prior to the construction of the Tower of Babel, there was only one language in this world. But as the Bible says, many languages sprang forth all over the world subsequent to the construction of the Tower of Babel.

Now, the people mentioned in this Scripture passage are all descendants of Noah. The Book of Genesis chapter 11 describes an event in which the descendants of Noah had built the tower of Babel. At that time, they used only one language, as it is written, “Now the whole earth had one language and one speech” (Genesis 11:1). In other words, people prior to the Babel Tower event used only one speech.
But as Noah’s descendants journeyed further and further from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar, which is where Iraq is now located. There they sought to avoid getting scattered abroad and to make a name for themselves by building a tower whose top would be in the heavens with bricks. And so, those descendants of Noah came to build the Tower of Babel. And so, they started building the Babel Tower, but they started building the tower using bricks that they had made instead of stones and using asphalt instead of mortar. In order to make the tower tall, they used asphalt to tower up the bricks. However, because God did not like this work, He had scattered abroad all of humankind at the time by confusing their language.
