Where do kings come from? Palaces? Capitals? Cities? Well, the King that Matthew is introducing is unlike other kings. While He was born in the Kingly city of Bethlehem (made famous by the great ruler David), King Jesus was, quite literally, from the sticks. This glimpse into the origins of Christ tells us a great deal about the way that God worked and continues to work among His people.

As Matthew continues to present Jesus, the Anointed One, he presents a story of another king. Through what many consider to be a "Christmas" story, we find a stark contrast between those who follow after the newborn King and those who would reject Him in favor of their own ways of thinking and believing.
