Encouraging (comforting) one another is a great responsibility and opportunity for every believer. This word ranges from challenging, to consoling, and exhorting. It is something that the Spirit does through His word and we can be used as His instrument of help.

This name Immanuel is one that most people connect with the Christmas story. But why was Israel looking for Immanuel? It was connected with the prophecies of Isaiah to a wicked king called Ahaz. This Immanuel was a divine sign to a faithless king and people. He was the one who would save the nation.

Submission is something even the world understands. Rank and order is necessary for structure and function of society. The believer is called to submit in multiple situations. This does not mean that the leader does not submit. The leader uses his position to serve. This is how submitting to one another is displayed.

This story of Joseph is designed to contrast and compare Joseph with Judah. Judah faced sexual temptation failed. Joseph faced repeated sexual temptation and succeeded. The reason he was successful was that he had an understanding and experience of the presence of God. To use the Old Testament idea Joseph had a fear of the Lord that kept him from the strange woman. His love and connection with God caused Joseph to see the cost of falling to temptation.

This first in the series on Job gives some of the initial background details on Job. It also gives some aids on reading with understanding the whole book of Job.

Genesis 38 is one of the most sorted passages of Scripture. There are sections of it that are difficult to read. However, all Scripture is profitable. This story of Judah serves as a comparison and contrast to Joseph. Judah is a wicked man. God uses the circumstances of him fathering children through Tamar to help him see his lack of righteousness and change him into the leader of Jacob's sons. It was God's grace through circumstances that broke and changed this man.

In Ephesians after discussing the doctrine of the church, Paul begins to instruct the church in how it is to act. Chapter 4 gives two one anothers that related to one another. Christians are to put up with one another and then be willing to forgive when someone doesn't put up or offends another.

Most colleges are unreached people groups. The world and academia often try to snuff out any real Christianity. The Christian must shine as a light in an environment like this.

This parable is not about the last judgment. This parable describes who is able to enter physically into the kingdom that Jesus will set up one day on the earth. There will be a judgment of the nations.

Hatred and envy plays out in this chapter of Genesis. It causes regular people to commit sins they would never imagine doing. The brothers of Joseph think that they can destroy God's plans for him. However, God gets Joseph to the next step of fulfilling His plan.
